It is full of foam and has been damaged by water. I want something really strong and water-repellent or, if possible!

Is expensive, but you could work the price in a workshop of local upholstery. To this adaptation of any material you want. Also note that the material would work. I'm sure it will be useful.
the replacement cost of the canopy is more than the cost of replacing just underway.
Any seamstress can do. Take the old bridge with you so that they use as a template.
All the shops fabric resistant outdoor fabrics.
